Aiki - Agility dog of the year 1993

Ophian Aiki For Agility

A sable/white sheltie called Aiki.

Aiki should now be mentioned on the page of "the dogs", but she has the most extensive merits of all our dogs, so I will keep this page until the memory of her is more vague.

She was born 1/11-88, and is the kennels first "homemade" puppy. Aiki was the daughter of Ofie, the start of the kennel. She's the agility-star of the kennel (Thank God for that - otherwise her name would be completely wrong!), and her merits are very extensive.

Aiki as a puppy

She has been on the Danish national team for agility every year from 1991-1997. In 1996 the Danish mini team became World Champions!

She was also the member of the Danish national agility team 1997 - participating in the FCI World Agility Championships, which were held in Denmark this year. Of course the Danish mini team were faithful to their principles... and became World Champions again in 1997!! It was a very exciting competition, where the nerves really gave some handlers problems. Aiki was the last runner for Denmark and she had to run a clear run to let Denmark re-gain their team-world championship, as one of the other team members had got eliminated. Fortunately she ran one of her best runs and the public "carried" her through the last obstacles. Read more about this competition on the World Agility Championships 1997 homepage.  Aiki's best individual result was the 5.place at the European championships in Torino in 1995. She has also been har part of winning team-gold at the Nordic championships in 1994 - the first of its kind, and in Denmark.

Aiki was of course a Danish agility champion and a jumping champion as well and was agility dog of the year 1993 and 1995 in Denmark. (She was 2nd in 1994 and 4th in 1996).She was also Danish obedience champion (since 1990) and got a CACIOB - the international obedience certificate.

She carried the Swedish and Finnish agility champion titles, too, and gained the Finnish agility championship as the very first foreign dog ever!! Therefore she was also among the 2 first dogs in the world to be accepted as Nordic agility champions.

Aiki qualified for Danish championships in year 2000 -12 years old, but unfortunately she was not feeling up to her best that day. Aiki ran her last agilitycompetition on the "sheltieday" on August 4th 2001 in a senior-class. She loved it, and "smiled" all the way round the course.

Aiki has got a certificate for conformation.

The day before Aiki's 13th birthday, we had to say goodbye to her. We did not feel that we could give her a worthy life anymore. She had some probems with urinating, and the medicine did not help her at all. On the day that we had to put her down, she was also sick with vomiting, fever and her stomach was so tense, that the vetenarian could not feel anything. Aiki's body was slowly giving up. After her death it was possible to examine her stomach, and the vetenarian meant that she might had a tumour in the stomach/on the blatter. Poor Aiki...maybe she felt pain already, but she was a tough girl that never complained.

We have lost a lovely, daring dog (that made life worth living, as my father said about her). 12 years old I entered her to an obedience test in eliteclass, eventhough it was several years ago she last entered a competition, and she passed with honour. I will never forget her love og working, she is the "row-model" for my future dog.

Aiki was the mother of Celine and the sister of Bon Jovi
